Fortunately, Carlo of Carlo’s Cranes is a bit of a Rain Man on the crane. So, after a cancellation because of wind on Tuesday (of course), a miscommunication on Wednesday, me whining about not being able to snowboard with Dennis on Thursday, we finally got the perfect day to crane the trusses in on Friday. A beautiful, sunny, warm, windless day. We were all ready to go after an awesome day at Big White. I’m glad Joel & Dean got to go up as well. In the end, the various gods of building and powder were smiling on us. But then, the Home Hardware delivery truck got stuck in our driveway. Looked like the crane would be postponed yet again. Once, we got the bad driver out, Joel thought that Carlo was a better driver and a bit of a wild man, so he booked the crane after cancelling it initially. Carlo cruised in with no problem, and we were off.
Here’s Carlo in action:
Perfect!
Joel & Dean were rockstars on the job today (even more so than normal). They went straight from 11am to 4:30 non-stop putting the trusses in place and securing them. I had the easy job of attaching the trusses to the crane. As they finished with the last truss, the next one would be just coming in. All in all, a very rewarding day.
Carlo got in fine, but getting out proved to be whole new challenge. The top heavy crane was leaning heavily in this quicksand. Some digging and plywood under one set of wheels got it out of that scary situation. With “Fuck you!” to the road after he got out, Carlo was off. Time to crack a growler of Freddy’s beer and enjoy a house with a roof.
